Bebop is not just a style of music, it’s a language. In order to improvise in the bebop style, one must be aware that there are certain idioms that are unavoidable, words we must know how to play with ease in any key and at different tempos. You'll not only learn these essential words but also concepts such as: Chromatic Approaches, Enclosures, Scale Combinations, Lick Transformations, Beat Targeting and more...

In this book, we have compiled a set of bebop lines (with workouts in all keys) that have been developed and adapted from famous solos by masters such as: Bud Powell, Kenny Barron, Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyler and others.

It is important to notice that music notation is not very user-friendly when it comes to chromatic approaches, keys with many accidentals, enharmonic spellings, etc. The sheet music provided should be used as a starting point to learn these lines, but we must move away from it as soon as possible, trying to incorporate these lines so we can play them without the need to look at the written music.

Among the set of bebop lines, we have included three lessons on how to practice improvisation (No.1, No.19 & No.20.) In these lessons we show you how to practice some basic—yet essential—aspects of improvisation.

Play-along Backing Tracks & Demos
There’s a play-along backing track for every bebop line to practice with (guitar, bass & drums.) We have also created demos with the bebop lines performed on piano over the same backing track. All links available inside the pdf.
